LCFA - Faculty Short Survey

Good day,

At long last the end of the school year is almost here.  Hopefully you'll be able to take some time to recharge, relax, and comeback refreshed in the fall.  Before you go... the LCFA would like you to take a short survey (5 questions) and provide us with your thoughts on a few topics.

  1. Feedback and Recognition

  2. Scheduling

  3. Decision Making

The purpose of this survey is to collect feedback from faculty; which we hope, will help continue to shine a spotlight on some of the priorities we've been trying to address with administration throughout the year.  All information gathered from this survey comes directly to the LCFA, and individual feedback is not shared with administration.  It is completely confidential and administration has no input, control, or access to the data collected.  This is conducted by the LCFA for LCFA members.

Please take a few moments to share your thoughts with us so we can work together and continue building a better Lethbridge College culture and environment for everyone.

Thank you,

LCFA Executives

Guarding Minds at Work Survey

Guarding Minds at Work Survey:

Now Open

The Lethbridge College Faculty Association would like to encourage all Faculty members to complete the Guarding Minds at Work Survey.  This is an opportunity for Faculty to share their thoughts and comments on the psychological health and safety of our campus.  It's important for Faculty to lend their voice and help shape the culture of our institution.

Responses will remain anonymous and combined with responses of others in your department or centre.  If you have any questions regarding your privacy; how the results will be reported, or are unclear which department you fall under, please contact OHS or IPAR.

The survey will be using several different terms in reference to psychological health and safety. Please review the definitions below and keep them in mind when completing your survey:

  • Harassment: includes any unwelcome verbal or physical behavior that unreasonably interferes with work/learning or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive work/learning environment. General harassment can include, but is not limited to, remarks, jokes or actions which demean or humiliate another person, and which deny individuals their dignity and respect. General harassment can also include bullying. Bullying usually involves repeated incidents or a pattern of behavior that is intended to intimidate, offend, degrade or humiliate a particular person or group of people. (LC Respectful campus policy)

  • Discrimination: includes any unwelcome behavior or communication directed towards a person or members of an identifiable group based on a prohibited ground of discrimination. Prohibited grounds include the following: race, religious beliefs, color, gender, physical disability, mental disability, marital status, age, ancestry, place of origin, family status, source of income and sexual orientation. (As defined by the Alberta Human Rights Commission) Excluding a person from a right or privilege to which they would otherwise be entitled, because of a prohibited ground, would constitute prohibited conduct. (LC Respectful campus policy)

  • Bullying: Bullying is usually seen as acts or verbal comments that could psychologically or 'mentally' hurt or isolate a person in the workplace. Sometimes, bullying can involve negative physical contact as well. Bullying usually involves repeated incidents or a pattern of behaviour that is intended to intimidate, offend, degrade or humiliate a particular person or group of people. It has also been described as the assertion of power through aggression. (CCOHS definition)

  • Union: Means a member of Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) or the Lethbridge College Faculty Association (LCFC).

  • Remotely: Means working virtually or not on college campus, whether regularly scheduled or a one-off occurrence.

Best regards,

LCFA Executive Council Members

Introducing Your New Faculty Relations Officer

A new, but experienced, face will lead LCFA's Administrative Side

Hello everyone,

I hope that this email finds you with all grading completed and on your way into the holiday break in good spirits.

This will likely be my last message as the FRO for your faculty association, and I wanted to use it to (re)introduce the individual who will be filling my role in the new year after I depart. I am pleased to announce that Mike Mayo, who had held this role previous to myself, will be returning to LCFA on January 9 to take over as the new FRO for the Association. Should you require the services of the faculty association before January 9, please reach out to Dave English or Kerry Edwards (or any of our other elected representatives - a list of whom can be found at lcfa.ca).

Mike brings with him a wealth of experience in the College community, and I have no doubt that he will serve the Association and its members well into the future. On a personal note, I feel much more assured leaving the administration of the Association with someone so experienced.

Once again, I would like very much to thank all of you for the opportunity to serve this organization and its membership. It’s been an incredible opportunity to see the strength and resilience of faculty from all walks of life as they have come through an incredibly challenging period. The passion and commitment of college teachers to continue their vital work despite everything stacking up against them is genuinely impressive and inspiring.

I have said before that institutions like this one are where the rubber hits the road in terms of social equity and making life better for working people and their families. They provide roadmaps and avenues for good jobs that sustain communities, and they give our neighbours opportunities. I will always believe that – and this experience has made me grateful for the people who do the work of this place day in and day out.

So: thank you again, and all the very best into the future.

Keith
